Susan Tedeschi and Derrick Trucks couldn’t have asked for a better night to play the first of their two sold out shows at Red Rocks featuring their group, The Tedeschi Trucks band. It was a picture perfect evening at the world renown venue for what turned out to be one of the funnest shows fans will see all season.
The evening started with Vincent Neil Emerson, a singer songwriter based in Fort Worth, Texas. Emerson played a quick 10-song set that included songs such as “7 Come 11,” and “Mountain Dew.” After a short break, the lights dimmed and Derek Trucks and the rest of the band slowly made their way to the stage and took their time to get settled into their instruments before breaking into the intro of “Woman to Woman” by Joe Cocker. After several minutes, Susan Tedeschi approached the mic and immediately captured the attention of the entire audience with her powerful vocals, effectively setting the tone for the rest of the evening.
The remainder of the set comprised a mixture of originals and covers of songs by the Faces, Dr.John and Gregg Allman. The distinctive sound coming from two guitars and the vocals of Tedeschi made each and every song their own. All in all, the Tedeschi Trucks Band put some of the most remarkable musicianship on display and created an evening that won’t soon be forgotten. The complete set list is listed below.
