Students of Woodrow Wilson High School and American University are quite familiar with the bare bones stage that stands smack in the middle of Fort Reno Park, but everyone should be excited to see the Fort Reno Concert Series back on the stage. Now in its 51st year, the Fort Reno Concert Series is a great opportunity to gather with friends and family to enjoy local bands and beautiful weather. The series holds concerts every Monday and Thursday in July, which means there are still two awesome shows left.
Located in the quaint Tenleytown neighborhood, the donation-funded shows take place from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., offering a great spot for a dinner picnic, dog walk, or just general park lounging. The series focuses on building community by keeping Fort Reno Park clean, being sponsor-free, and welcoming people of all ages.
All the performing bands are DMV-based, and some of the best new and established indie rock acts are on the bill. This includes glam-tinged roots rockers Jackie and the Treehorns and self-described “momcore” group, Louder Messy.
It’s important to keep free, easily-accessible, inclusive events like this alive, so grab a blanket and a friend and head up to Fort Reno for a relaxing, music-filled evening in the park.
